About Voices
We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization, incorporated in Maryland as a 501(c)3 corporation.
We publish and distribute free informational brochures and newsletters related to long term care.
We provide free assistance and advice to existing Family Councils and help new Family Councils get started.
We operate a toll-free help line to assist anyone with long term care issues.
We are a voice for residents and their families on the local level by working with residents, family members, local ombudsmen, local area Agencies on Aging and County Commissioners to remedy problems in long term care.
We serve as members on state level committees and attend state level forums to ensure the resident's point of view is heard and considered when decisions affecting long term care are made.
We maintain email listserves for our members and for Family Councils to communicate with each other at no cost.
We provide county by county listings of Nursing Homes which had either a very small number of deficiencies or a large number of deficiencies in the last reported state survey.
We meet quarterly at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 13106 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20720. These meetings are actually mini-conferences and include workgroups, discussion groups and committees in addition to speakers on relevant long term care issues. Use the Site Navigation Panel to the left of this page for driving directions to our meeting place.
Legislative Action... When all else fails, we pursue legislative solutions and have found that it is wise to keep a close eye on proposed regulation changes that might adversely affect long term care residents and their families. To that end, we have a hardworking legislative committee that not only watches what is happening in our General Assembly, but also brings proposals for needed new legislation to our lawmakers. The Family Council Law is one example of the success of our efforts.
